Meet the Modern Woodworkers Association at Woodworking in America

Today Im sharing some MWA news here also, because the news is big. Popular Woodworking Magazine has been kind enough to enter into a marketing agreement with the Modern Woodworkers Assocaition. In exchange for helping to promote Woodworking in America, the Modern Woodworkers Association will receive booth space at both the Pasadena and Cincinnati WIAs in 2012. They will also provide us with a small compensation for anyone who buys tickets to either WIA using our affiliate code: MODERNWW

Today Im at Brittany Makes Weekend Recap

Heres a little recap of ours ...
Last weekend I made an impulse purchase -a hammock swing. Before David could say yes or no, I was pressing confirm on Amazon. It was only $25 with mixed reviews, but I figured if it broke, David could fix it ... I also signed up for the trial Amazon Prime membership (Downton Abbey season 3 is on there now...) #nospoilers
I shipped a custom order gold leaf love print ... tutorial here, or if youd like me to make one for you, let me know.
and finally, my fabric issues ... awhile ago I ordered Richloom Dixon Slub in Graphite for the mid-century modern chairs that I recently got. I never looked at the fabric and when I started upholstering the seats, I discovered that it was the black colorway instead of gray. Boo! Pretty fabric, but a little too much contrast for the space. So I decided to order this fabric from Caitlin Wilson Textiles instead. I LOVE all of her fabrics, and finally decided on the thin chevron. I think the mint will tie in perfectly with the chandelier.
I also ordered a metallic linen for the ratan chairs, but I wasnt feeling it, so Im also selecting new fabric for those too! I posted it on Instagram and Facebook. Thanks so much to everyone who voted!! There were votes for everything, but B and D were by far the most popular. I do love all the fabrics, I think some work better than others with the caning, but ultimately Im going with B because I can purchase locally, I already have the coral fabric for the welting, and its cheaper... Also, my mom (aka sewing genius) is visiting this week, shes always willing to help with projects, so it should look super professional!

Ive Always Wanted To Make A Chair at least since summer
On Monday +Lee Valley Tools released their latest video from Woodworking in America. This one it titled, Whats The One Thing Youve Always Wanted To Make? While I was initially disappointed I didnt make the video (Im in the two previous WIA videos), I realized it likely had to do with my project.
Making a chair seemed to be listed by about half those interviewed. Frankly, everyone else had a better description or explanation than I did.
It remains though - I do want to make a chair. Since reading Jeff Millers Chairmaking and Design over the summer Ive had building a chair stuck in my head.
In an attempt to nurture that chair Ive attended wonderful chair classes with Ejler Hjorth-Westh at WIA and even traveled to Atlanta to attend a class on chairmaking with Jeff himself.
Now all I need to do is decide on a design and get to work. While the chair supposed to be a 2013 project, I am closer and more ready than Ive ever been. By the end of 2014 I should be able to write these posts form the comfort of my own chair.
